Wrestling in a Belgian sauce
Belgium - 2010
I wanted to understand how popular culture is expressed through the codes and rituals of this sport imported from the United States. How does the social tissue of middle- and leased favoured-classes finds its bearings in wrestling matches and their aesthetic codes. Perspective was given to this work as with the evolutions of this practice in popular milieus, particularly wrestling at fairs. Ma photographic demarche is authentic. I left the protagonists free to express themselves. The premise was to allow the wrestlers total freedom in choosing their staging; wrestlers were “free to play”. Wrestling is a theatre sport.
